Uploading the latest MasterThatRiff! video last night I noticed that the mastertheguitar youtube channel has now surpassed 4 million upload views!
After reaching this milestone I thought it would be a good time to have a look at the numbers, see what the top 10 most popular videos are:
Top Ten Most Watched Videos
01 – MasterThatRiff 10! – Ozzy Osbourne “Crazy Train”
02 – MasterThatRiff 23! – Bon Jovi “Wanted Dead Or Alive”
03 – MasterThatRiff 1! – AC/DC “Back In Black”
04 – MasterThatRiff 2! – Rage Against The Machine “Killing In The Name”
05 – MasterThat Riff 5! – Iron Maiden “The Trooper”
06 – MasterThatRiff 4! – Lenny Kravitz “Always On The Run”
07 – MasterThatRiff 24! – Metallica “Sad But True”

09 – MasterThatRiff 31! – Metallica “Master Of Puppets”
10 – MasterThatRiff 9! – Pantera “Walk”
No surprises that some of the oldest videos will have the most views. I’m glad to see that the quality have improved over time too, some of those old videos make me cringe a little
Ozzy’s ‘Crazy Train’ comes out top with a whopping 212,563 views! A classic riff for sure but I wonder if a few views are because of my old Ibanez GMC Jem
Demographics

As with all things guitar the stats show that the majority of viewers are males and interestingly between the ages of 45-55. Maybe people returning to playing after some years break due to work/family.
Popularity

The US and UK comes top for popularity which is to be expected for global internet traffic use, but it’s interesting to see how the others shape up.
Record Views

There’s been a couple of huge viewing spikes over the years, one being the New Year video I made in 2007 which had over 6484 views on New Year’s Eve 2007 then another spike on New Year’s Eve 2008 with 3409 views!
Thankyou
As I’ve mentioned before, initially I wanted to do short videos showing riffs as some promo for my teaching business here in Edinburgh, but also as a way to get used to speaking on camera (still not 100% comfortable with that
) and the whole production process with the long term aim to offering pre-recorded online lessons.
Since launching on January 14th 2007 the channel currently has 113 videos uploaded and 11817 subscribers. It’s grown beyond anything I could had ever hoped for and has helped me reach a point where I am happy enough with quality to forge ahead with pre-recorded video lessons.
So once again I would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone out there who has watched any of these videos over the years here’s to a lot more
