‘Ner Ner’ Improv

November 30, 2006

After listening to the great Mr Govan playing ‘Ner Ner’ today I was inspired to have a noodle over the chords myself:

Single take with the odd bum note, but hey that’s half the fun :). Loud thumps courtesy of over excited foot tapping ;)

Post UKMG-NPU-6

November 16, 2006

As I mentioned, I was down south for the weekend having great fun at yet another UKMG-NPU.

It was great to meet up with everyone again and have a good laugh. The event itself was nearly a non-starter due to original venue being shutdown but the organizers managed to excel themselves and sort out a far superior venue, which was handily only 5 minutes walking distance from the B&B we were staying at…result ;).

The performance part of the weekend was, as usual, fantastic with some great playing and a supportive crowd. One specific highlight was a solo set from one Jon Gomm. I’ve been aware of this man’s playing due to my love of ’slappy-tappy’ style acoustic playing ala Don Ross, Tommy Emmanuel etc. but nothing prepares you for witnessing it first hand.

It was truly amazing, fantastic songs, singing and of course, percussive guitar gymnastics. I loved it so much I bought his CD which I highly recommend you do too.

BUYBUYBUY!

From a personal view, I was disappointed with my playing in both the acoustic and electric sets but hey I had a blast and that’s what it’s all about!

UKMG-NPU-6!

November 9, 2006

It’s that time of year again!

The UKMG National is once being held this weekend down in darkest Shropshire. This will be my 5th year running and as usual I am really looking forward to it :). A weekend of mates, beer, curry and LOUD GUITARS!

Prep this year has gone very well and due to new restrictions this year the song tally isn’t as high. I’m down for 4 this time . A little bit of acoustic fun in the afternoon with an arrangement of ‘Naima’ by John Coltrane, a bash through ‘Used To Love Her’ by Guns ‘n’ Roses then in the evening it’s out with the electric for Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’ and a duet with the nimble fingered Paul McCrone on ‘Down Down Down’ by Joe Satriani.

Can’t Wait!
